I love Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) at Universal Studios Hollywood and I love Minions. So this is a great time of year for me. Sure, people go to HHN for Houses and Scare Zones. But the themed food has become a big part of HHN over the last few years, like the already legendary Ghosbusters Stay-Puft s’more that is being sold at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida.
And at Universal Hollywood, the minions get in on the food fun with the “Monster Minions Menu” at the Monster Minions Cafe. That’s right when HHN takes over the park on select nights after 7PM, the Minion Cafe becomes The Monster Minion Cafe with special food and drinks (which technically are also available during the day so all the little monsters can try it as well). I made it to HHN on Friday night and was able to try the three menu items that are specific for HHN at Universal Hollywood, buying them all at the same time to essentially create my “Monster Minion Meal”
And can I just say that I love that the minions are getting in on the fun this year with Minion Bob dressing up like Frankenstein and becoming “Frankenbob”! This “new” character is an absolute delight as Frankenbob’s visage has become the centerpiece of popcorn buckets, t-shirts, plushies – and even the Monster Minion Menu at Minion Cafe at Universal Hollywood. So what is this menu – and how is Frankenbob involved?
The menu consists of three core items: the Evil Mac and Cheese ($9.99), the Monster Bob Punch ($11), and the Frankenbob Cookie ($5.99). A Frankenbob popcorn bucket is also available (for $34.99 and free refills all day – or night).
The Monster Minion Cafe itself is basically the normal minion cafe with spooky minion projections added along with some fun but spooky music. It is actually a quiet corner of HHN (at least on my first night) which made it easy to both order, get food and find a seat. The team members there were happy to serve up the featured items – and frankly I was a little nervous to order the Monster Bob punch. It was not on the sign – though it is listed in the app. But the team member was happy and welcoming and knew exactly what I wanted and she served it up quickly. Monster Minion Cafe is the perfect place to get a rest, some food, and a recharge before heading out to more HHN houses and scare zones in the night. Now, to the food.
The Evil Mac and Cheese is essentially the usual Minion Mac and Cheese but served with a topping of crushed hot cheetos. It is delicious. The mac and cheese is creamy, and tasty and the cheetos add a nice crunch and kick. For $9.99 this is an absolute steal and I wish it was offered all year long. Although it does not LOOK like anything related to the minions (well I guess it is yellow), one can imagine the evil minions making it in the back quite easily, which is what I like to do.

The Monster Bob Punch is Sprite, Fanta Orange, blue-rasberry syrup, and a minion eyes garnish. At $11 this is a little pricey BUT it is so good. On a hot night at HHN, this beverage hits the spot. I loved it. The mix of different soft drinks and flavors gives the beverage a blue/green sheen and the minion eyes give it an otherworldly quality that ups the drinks thematic game. They eyes were also quite delicious to eat. I do wonder why they do not call this the “Frankenbob” punch but maybe it does not like Frankenstein enough to merit that designation and it might confuse the kids. Who knows. With Frankenbob so front and center, it is a little puzzling.

Speaking of Frankenbob, the final dish is the Frankenbob Cookie. At $5.99, this sugar cookie definitely looks like Frankenbob and non just a generic “monster” Bob. It is a sugar cookie with green frosting and garnish. It is very straightforward in execution and taste. But that is not a bad thing because it still tastes great for what it is. And it is a fun treat to carry around and eat during HHN.

I will be going back to the Monster Minion Cafe many times during this HHN season and I think of the three dishes, the one that I am most likely to sample again is actually the Monster Bob Punch. Even at $11, it is delicious, refreshing, thematically on point and hits on the spot on a hot HHN night in Hollywood.
What do you think of the minions at HHN? Do you like Frankenbob? Do you want to see more of them or less? Have you tried any of these menu items? Have you tried Minion Cafe at either Hollywood or Florida? I noticed that there is no Monster Minion Cafe in Florida (probably because they have so many other food options) so I sure am glad we have it here at HHN Hollywood – are you? Let me know your answer to all of these questions and more in the comments.
And thanks for reading!
