Last week was World Princess Week 2024 and to honor the occasion, Disney World offered numerous treats throughout its parks and resorts to honor most of the thirteen Disney Princesses during this week-long celebration. World Princess Week is a global celebration that honors the courage, kindness, and independence of the Disney Princess characters.
The week has many facets with offerings at the Disney Store (both in person and online) and throughout Disney Plus, Disney Channel, and even Disney Calm. Maybe the most visible representation is that unique treat line-up that comes to the Disney Parks across the globe every year. And the biggest selection of treats is found at Walt Disney World. So I’ve always wanted to go to Disney World during this week and this year, I booked a trip just to be able to finally go and sample every one of these treats which were all offered from August 25th through August 31st.
So forget about EPCOT Food and Wine for a minute, put down that Disney World foodie guide to Halloween treats, and take a minute to appreciate every one of these spectacular (some more than others) treats.
REVIEWS
I will review them in the order that I ate them over my five day stay and will give a ranking at the end. I factored in taste, creativity/uniqueness, thematic resonance/tie in (how well they represent their respective Disney Princess), and value (price for what you receive). With that said, here we go!
1. Princess Tiana Cone – Storybook Treats – Magic Kingdom

This was the first Princess Week treat that I ate. I ordered it up on the afternoon of my arrival as I waited for the Magic Kingdom’s newest ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, to open in the late afternoon (yes, that’s right, sadly the ride had been down most of the day). Shortly after ordering and consuming, the ride opened. So I thank the cone for the good luck!
The cone itself was a mint and vanilla mix, dressed in white pearls that were actually white chocolate candies. The final garnish was a white chocolate wafer emblazoned with Tiana’s visage in her final gown from THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG. The treat is described in Disney Parks Blog as “white chocolate and frosted mint soft-serve swirl topped with white chocolate crispy pearls and a chocolate decoration.” The price is $6.29 – a bit high for a cone but hey, this is Magic Kingdom.

The ice cream mix was delicious. Mint works well when paired with a base flavor, be that chocolate or vanilla. The pearls had some consistency but were not overly chewy or hard. And the wafer was both aesthetically pleasing and a delicious treat.

2. Moana Mini-Cake – Captain Cooks and Kona Island – Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

This cake was available for purchase in the refrigerator section of Captain Cooks quick service. I picked it up right before a showing of the Electric Water Pageant and ate it while sitting on the beach waiting for the show to begin. The desert is described in the Disney Parks Blog as “vanilla cake, mango mousse, glaçage, buttercream, fondant, white chocolate décor, and a white chocolate Moana candy decoration.”

This cake was DELICIOUS. It was early in my trip when I sampled it but this already felt like it might be one of the best deserts of the trip and one of the contenders for top treat at World Princess Week. The cake was moist and the combination of buttercream, white chocolate, and mango was perfect. Plus it was being served at the Poly, Moana’s home resort and seemed to be enhanced by the resort setting. For the record, the water pageant was called off for inclement weather but it did not matter. The desert alone was well worth the trip to the Poly.

3. Belle Cup of Enchantment (Princess Belle) – Fairfax Fare – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This is a Cranberry and Minute Maid Passion Fruit Orange Guava Juice beverage topped with yellow shimmer and strawberry boba pearls. The drink itself is a stylish representation of Belle in her traditional ball gown from one of the most famous scenes in all of animation history with just a hint of that oh so important rose! I loved the visual.

And overall, I loved this beverage as well. I sampled it towards the beginning of my After Hours event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and it was somehow refreshing, surprising, and delicious! It oddly represented Belle well in its simplicity and ease – yet also felt refined and somehow fun. Intentional or not, there was a simple thematic resonance here. It had a citrus taste balanced with an inherent sweetness that was always present. The strawberry boba pearls offered a nice textural and taste contrast. This was one of the simplest but also best treats in Princess Week. It is the perfect treat also for August in Florida. This was priced for $6.99 which might seem high for a drink but I would argue with a coke costing $5 – it was well worth the extra $2 for this unique. The price felt fair (at Fairfax Fare no less!).

4. Guardian of the Dragon Gem Cake (Princess Raya) – Creature Comforts – Disney’s Animal Kingdom

This offering was definitely the most unique and one of the most creative offerings of the menu. It also was thematically interesting as Raya’s warrior princess is not necessarily one for swirls, swaths of frosting, or chocolate toppings, then neither is her associated desert.

The cake offers, per the Disney Parks Blog, “mango mousse, lychee-dragon fruit gelee, coconut cake, dragon tail cream, and white chocolate décor.” Personally I would describe it more as a unique variation (like Raya herself is on the Disney Princess) on the standard Disney “dome” (aka the Donald Duck dome or Minni domes that are often sold in Magic Kingodm). So in that sense, there is both a visual and thematic reference inherent in the treat. The dome acts as the force field around the dragon gem with a base that looks like a field of grass but it actually a thin but fresh and delicious slice of chocolate/coconut cake bed. The center is a lychee-dragon fruit ball or “gelee” as Disney terms it.

Overall, there is a lot going on, and it is adventurous and well thought out and composed. Ultimately, however, I did not respond to the tastes and taste combinations but I could see how others might. The different textures of the desert: cake, dome, gelee – also are interesting but also a bit distracting and somehow feel less than a whole. The chocolate or candy sword, however, adds a small but delicious touch. The price at $8.99 felt a little high. You do get a lot, there was just not a lot to like from a taste perspective.

5. Cinderella Cupcake – Contempo Cafe – Disney’s Contemporary Resort

I love Cinderella, she is probably my favorite Disney Princess (Aurora, Snow White, and Rapunzel are right there, though). She is Magic Kingdom’s signature princess and her story always resonates. And the Contemporary Resort is probably my favorite Disney resort – it certainly is, in my opinion, the most iconic. So I was feeling very positive when I sampled this desert as part of my lunch at the Contemporary.

The cupcake is described by Disney Parks Blog as “vanilla cake with vanilla crème custard filling, buttercream, white chocolate slipper, and fondant pumpkin.” It is sold for $6.99.
It is very basic but also quite perfect in its simplicity and one of the best priced deserts of the collection. It is a vanilla cupcake with a buttercream topping, well presented with two delicious candied toppings. This is not to take anything away from it, as we will see that, later on, it can sometimes be difficult to nail simplicity. So shout out to this delicious but simple dessert.

6. The Little Mermaid Shake (Princess Ariel) – Dockside Diner – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I stopped by DHS’ Dockside Diner on one of the hottest days at Disney World for a lunch time break but it was so hot that I didn’t feel like eating anything. This was also my first of four deserts consumed on this afternoon at Disney World. The Little Mermaid Shake is described by the Disney Parks Blog as “vanilla, mango, passion fruit, and guava shake topped with whipped cream and a pineapple-guava seashell cake.”
The shake has an odd taste to it. Maybe it was because I was drinking a milkshake and it was pushing 100 degrees, but I was not enjoying it. But the taste was close to being great, it just felt a little off. Also the sugar coated rim really makes things messy. You inevitably end up touching it if you are carrying it around or even transporting it to your seat. Surprising, I know. But wow I touched that coating a lot and it STAYS on your fingers.

The seashell cake topping, however, was excellent. In isolation, this is one of the best things you can order and devour during World Princess Week. But it comes with the shake which is a little off and a lot messy.

7. Make It Pink, Make It Blue: Aurora Fruit Tart (Princess Aurora aka Briar Rose) – Le Petit Cafe – Disney’s Riviera Resort

This was my first time ever at Riviera Resort and I must say, I loved the location. This resort gets so much hate from DisTwitter for being bland but upon entering it in person, it was anything but. And if it was bland, it wore it well. It seemed so tranquil, new, and also welcoming. I loved that it is directly connected by Skyliner to both EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Le Petit Cafe is also a wonderful little oasis in the middle of the resort, tucked away in the second floor lobby. I arrived shortly after my time enduring the high temperatures of Disney’s Hollywood Studios – so the cool and refreshing AC added to the general feeling of being welcomed to the Riviera. But hey, this is not a review about Disney’s Riviera Resort, so let’s get to the treat.

I purchased an iced coffee to go with the “Make It Pink, Make It Blue” tart as Le Petit Cafe is essentially the Riviera’s coffee stop. The tart was also served on real dishware (something not even done at the Poly or the Contemporary). The dessert is described by the Disney Parks Blog as “diplomat cream, raspberry mousse, fresh berries, white chocolate crown with citric acid color-changing solution.”

This is a beautiful tart filled with fresh cream mousse and berries: sweet and refreshing. And yes, you read that last part of the Disney Parks blog correctly – it also comes with a color changing solution. And I had not read that upon receiving the tart. I was puzzled by the plastic needle filled with solution in the middle of this beautiful tart. Stupidly I sucked on it and was shocked at the taste. Luckily I took just a drop. I decided to drip it on the tart, thinking that it might enhance the already great taste. And while it did. It also changed the raspberry mousse from white to pink and blue swirls, thereby mirroring the famous wand “fight” in SLEEPING BEAUTY between Flora and Merryweather as they battle over the color of Briar Rose aka Aurora’s dress for meeting the prince.

This was a wonderful treat – light, fruity, beautifully looking, and with a magical thematic tie in that made it my favorite treat of the trip. It was also only $7.29. So well priced for what felt like a very high-class treat. I should note that there is a similar dessert at Topolino’s Terrace that is also offered with an orange mousse and a side of almond crumbles but is essentially the same and includes the color changing solution.

8. Moana’s Petit Cake – Amorette’s Patisserie – Disney Springs

Not to be confused with the previously reviewed Moana dessert at the Poly, this cake is offered in Disney Springs by Amorette’s and is quite different from the Poly mini cake. It is larger, more expensive ($22!) and is a bit simpler. It is essentially birthday cake wrapped in hard frosting shell. It is described in the Disney Parks Blog as “layers of vanilla sprinkle cake with white chocolate mousse.”

I took the cake to go and that was probably a mistake but I had already eaten the Little Mermaid shake and the tart and was stuffed. So when I got back to my room at the resort later, the frosting had come off. Nonetheless, it was otherwise well preserved. This is essentially a simple cake and I feel like they “made it for kids”. Now the Cinderella cupcake at the Contemporary was also simple but this one feels not as well composed. Maybe it suffered from being the third treat that I consumed that afternoon but I was just not feeling it – especially for the price. It also felt like in terms of thematic tie-in it was lacking, even if compared to the other Moana cake at the Poly. Having said all that, the fourth treat did offer something fun.

- Creativity/Uniqueness: 7/10
- Thematic tie-in: 6/10
- Value: 2/10
- Score Average: 5.25/10
9. Rapunzel Ganache Pop – The Ganachery – Disney Springs

The Ganachery was offering a Rapunzel version of one of its famous “Ganache” pops. A Ganache pop is essentially a chocolate bar on a stick – or a chocolate lollipop, usually themed and decorated to make it a confection far beyond my pale description. This was the fourth treat of the afternoon and by the time I consume it, we were heading into the evening. Luckily, I was able to refrigerate it for a bit and cool it down. The Parks Blog describes this treat as “dark chocolate, vanilla beans, and candied cherries covered in 65% dark chocolate.”

It was very delicious and looked beautiful, just one of the most exquisite treats of the week and also felt like a real indulgence. While it was $7 for the pop, it felt worth it. Maybe it was because I had just paid $23 for Moana’s Petit Cake at Amorette’s but I liked it quite a bit and felt the price was well within the range, especially if you factor the Instagram or TikTok usage into it (a kind of gross observation, I know). The candied cherries layer paired well with the vanilla beans and dark chocolate center. Really delicious!

10. Rapunzel Sundae – Storybook Treats – Magic Kingdom

And we end this tour where we began, in Magic Kingdom, at Storybook Treats with another ice cream dish. This time it is a Rapunzel Sundae. It is priced at $9.99. The dish is described in Disney Parks Blog as “shortcake with wild berry soft-serve and DOLE Whip Lemon topped with berry compote and sugar flowers.”

Although this sundae is technically part of Disney’s World Princess Week treat line-up it was available prior to the week and will be available after – and that is a great thing because this is one delicious dessert. Lemon dole whip pairs so well with wild berry soft serve and is enhanced by the compote. The sugared flowers are both nice to look at and add a nice crunch. For what it’s worth, I think this desert is supposed to mimic Rapunzel’s hair and I thought that was kind of neat as it added a bit of a thematic element to the whole endeavor, something that was only seen here and there throughout this treat line-up. Also, priced at $9.99, it feels like a much better value than the $6.99 Princess Tiana cone.
- Taste: 10/10
- Creativity/Uniqueness: 9/10
- Thematic tie-in: 9/10
- Value: 9/10
- Score Average: 9.25/10
FINAL RANKINGS OF PRINCESS WEEK TREATS AT DISNEY WORLD
Factoring in taste, creativity, price, and thematic resonance/tie-in, here are my Princess Week deserts ranked:
- Make It Pink, Make It Blue Tart – Le Petit Cafe – Disney’s Riviera Resort
- Rapunzel Sundae – Storybook Treats – Magic Kingdom
- Belle’s Cup of Enchantment – Fairfax Fare – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Moana Mini-Cake – Captain Cooks – Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
- Rapunzel Ganache Pop – The Ganachery – Disney Springs
- Cinderella Cupcake – Contempo Cafe – Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Princess Tiana Cone – Storybook Treats – Magic Kingdom
- Guardian of the Dragon Gem – Creature Comforts – Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- The Little Mermaid Shake – Dockside Diner – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Moana’s Petit Cake – Amorette’s Patisserie – Disney Springs
Treats 1-7 were all great and the top three are definitive and ranked appropriately. But it was honestly difficult to rank 4-7 (two Rapunzel treats in the top 5, maybe Rapunzel is my favorite princess). The bottom three unfortunately are all correctly ranked as well – each with their own issues, and some with more than others. Yes, the Guardians of the Dragon Gem cake and the Little Mermaid Shake were a tie but I would give the edge to Dragon Gem.
Closing Thoughts
It was a bit of a bummer to not see Snow White, Merida, Jasmine, Pocahontas, or Mulan represented. But hey – we got Princess Raya this year and I guess there’s always next year.
That being said, even though Rapunzel received two treats this year, I hope Disney keeps that Rapunzel Sundae on the menu for a while – so everyone gets a chance to try this delicious treat, even after Princess Week. I also think, just from my past stays at Walt Disney World, that some of these other treats have been at the resorts prior to World Princess Week, including the Moana Mini-Cake and the Cinderella Cupcake. I’m not sure if they will stay permanently or cycle back in periodically but it is something to look out for as both were definitely worth a try.
What do you think? Have you tried any of the treats? Would you want to try any? Who is your favorite Disney Princess? Did they get a treat? Was your favorite Princess well represented? Let me know in the comments. And thank you for reading!
