I tried the McDonalds AS IS MEAL. (LOKI Season 2) Sweet and Sour Sauce is good.

I’ll be perfectly honest. There is no way I would have tried the McDonalds AS IS meal if not for the LOKI sweet and sour sauce. I’m a sucker. I get it. But it got me into my car and into the drive thru at McDonalds for lunch today.

Was it worth it? On the face of it, McDonalds latest “As Is” meal feels like the biggest scam yet from the Golden Arches (actually, to be fair, they don’t have many scams and I love their food so maybe that was a bit hyperbolic). The premise of the meal is that McDonalds has been featured in a ton of movies and TV shows (and anime! Take that Zoomers!). And in honor of ALL of these movies, McDonalds is going to roll out a meal to celebrate their latest appearance in LOKI Season 2 (which doesn’t premiere for another seven weeks by the way).

But it is not really a meal at all, it is just a re-packaging of the Big Mac/QPC/ 10 piece McNugget meals with sweet and sour sauce (in special commemorative Loki packaging that has an AR component in snapchat but I haven’t had an active snapchat in a few years). Was this a lazy idea? Maybe. Was this a good idea? Absolutely.

Because of the basic nature of the AS IS meal, I picked the QPC. I don’t like cheese or onion, so I ordered it without (hardly as is – I know, but I’m lactose intolerant and can’t stand the taste of onions so bear with me). To be clear though, there is nothing new about the sauce, save for the label – which may make it a collectible, but not materially different.

And you know what, a QPC or i my case, the “QP” tastes great with the Loki S2 (but actually regular old) sweet and sour sauce, and… who knew!? The fries were not as great – in fact, they were kind of peanut-y with the sauce. I didn’t like that.

Which leads me to the conclusion that this is not an AS IS meal at all. Very few people have probably tried Sweet and Sour sauce with their QPCs or Big Macs so nice job McDonalds. You have made a fairly straightforward but materially enhanced meal. And you know what, I’ll try it again (especially if I can get some more of that special edition sauce – even though I get it, it’s just regular sauce).

One other happy note, I was also able to get a Photon figure (MCU adjacent WANDAVISION and THE MARVELS) and almost complete my MARVELS Happy Meal collection. But more on that in a future post.
