UNBOXING: The Marvel Legends Zombie Scarlet Witch (from WHAT IF…?)

Well I’m back. Back to blogging about the MCU, back to blogging about the MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, and back to unboxing toys from the MCU featuring characters in MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS. Look, I haven’t bought a Marvel Legends figure in a minute. And I haven’t done an unboxing in over a year. But I really love the Disney Plus action figures for some weird reason. Maybe its because when I was a kid, action figures from a TV series were really rare. Maybe its because Disney Plus shows may not always be top tier MCU stories (though a couple were in my opinion), but they always do a great job in character design and costuming. And even in an animated series like MARVEL’S WHAT IF…? – the design is still great.

In fact they were so great that a couple of the designs from WHAT IF…? were specifically used in DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, specifically Zombie Doctor Strange and Captain Carter. All of this is to say – hey, you’ve read this blog. You know I’m a Scarlet Witch superfan. So when Marvel Legends dropped the Zombie Scarlet Witch at my local Target today, it was a no-brainer purchase. And I liked it so much and was so excited about it that I thought I’d do an unboxing. So without further ado, I present Zombie Scarlet Witch.

Now first thing to notice is that this is one of Hasbro/Disney’s new “Plastic Free” boxes. And while I think some of the motivation here is environmental, I also think they are trying to discourage resale. I mean there are plenty of other Disney toys still sold in plastic packaging – including STAR WARS, smaller MCU action figures, and even the Disney Princess Line. Still Disney knows that Marvel Legends is one of the hotter lines and far too often they are bought in bulk and resold as collector’s item. If you are essentially reselling “a box”, however, the desire to purchase in secondary markets would presumably lessen. It is a gamble as Disney has to be somewhat watching to make sure primary market sales are also not effected. I’m not the biggest fan but after opening it, I have to admit – I kind of like it. More on that in a second.

First lets take a look at the back which features another picture of Zombie Scarlet Witch.

The first side features a photo of Khonshu who is the “Build-A-Figure” for this series that features Loki, He Who Remains, Agent Jimmy Woo, Red Skull, and Howard The Duck. The other side features some beautiful artwork from the WHAT IF…? series.

Opening up the package reveal an easy to remove figure nicely sandwiched between cardboard and in a thin paper bag. And this is why I like this packaging. It is WAY easier to open up. No wires to cut, no scissors or hard ripping cardboard. I can see why some versions of this type of packaging are referred to (especially on Amazon) as “Stress Free Packaging”

I also think the hair is pretty cool and amazing – even for a Marvel Legends figure…

And slightly reminiscent of another one of my Marvel Legends favorites: the Walmart exclusive Marvel Legends Medusa (from the Inhumans).

BONUS UNBOXING

Here in the other side of the cardboard and in a separate thin bag is Khonshu’s leg. While I am not necessarily interested in the other figures in this series, I like this build-a-figure. I am tempted.
